Hoya gunung gading is an attractive and decorative Hoya (wax plant) originally discovered in Gunung Gading National Park. It belongs to the finlaysonii complex of Hoyas and is known for its beautiful, patterned foliage that may shift shades or develop deeper tones when exposed to bright light. The leaves are typically ovate with noticeable veins, and under certain light can take on sun-stressed colours. Like many Hoyas, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers with contrasting centres.

Care Tips:

  • Light – Bright, indirect light is ideal; moderate filtered sunlight helps maintain attractive foliage without scorching.

  • Watering – Allow the top of the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings; avoid overwatering to prevent root issues.

  • Soil / Medium – A well-draining, airy mix (e.g., with bark, perlite, coco coir) suits its epiphytic nature.

  • Humidity – Prefers moderate to high humidity, as would be found in its native tropical habitat.

  • Temperature – Thrives in warm conditions; protect from cold and avoid temperatures below about 15°C (60°F).

  • Growth Habit – A trailing or climbing vine that can be trained on supports or left to cascade.

  • Sun Stress – Some growers intentionally expose the plant to brighter light to encourage deeper leaf colours (sun stress), but be cautious to avoid direct harsh sun.
