Hoya hypolasia

Hoya hypolasia is a rare epiphytic Hoya native to Papua New Guinea, particularly notable for its long, narrow, heavily pubescent foliage. The leaves can reach approximately 12–18 cm long and 4–4.5 cm wide, becoming thicker, darker, and more rigid with age while retaining their characteristic soft, fuzzy texture. Mature plants produce umbels of around 15–25 pale yellow to greenish-yellow flowers, each approximately 2 cm across, with a contrasting yellow corona. Its unusual velvety foliage and sunny yellow flowers make H. hypolasia a highly desirable species for collectors of fuzzy-leaved Hoyas.

Care Tips:

• Provide medium to bright filtered light, avoiding harsh direct midday sun.
• Use a very airy, fast-draining substrate that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged.
• Water relatively evenly during active growth, allowing the mix to become partially dry but avoiding prolonged complete dryness.
• Maintain 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
• Keep temperatures warm to intermediate; avoid prolonged exposure to cold conditions.
• Provide a trellis or other support for its climbing stems.
• Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
• Avoid wetting the fuzzy leaves frequently, as trapped moisture can encourage spotting or fungal problems.
• Do not remove old flower peduncles, as Hoyas can rebloom from established flowering spurs.
