Hoya imbricata 'Maxima Red Corona' is a rare and highly distinctive form of the famous shingling Hoya, prized for its exceptionally large, thick leaves and striking red corona. The leaves are broad, dark green, and heavily textured, developing an attractive mottled pattern as the plant matures. Like typical Hoya imbricata, the leaves naturally press flat against a vertical surface and overlap like roof shingles, creating a dramatic living mosaic. The small flowers are creamy white to yellowish-white and appear in dense clusters, with the most distinctive feature being the intensely red corona at the center of each flower. The flowers are approximately 0.5–0.8 cm (0.2–0.3 in) across and have a mild, sweet fragrance. This combination of extra-large foliage, natural shingling habit, and vivid red floral corona makes 'Maxima Red Corona' an especially desirable collector Hoya.

Care Tips:

  • Provide bright, filtered light with gentle morning sun; avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight.
  • Give the plant a flat vertical support, such as cork bark, wood, or a moss-covered board, so the leaves can naturally shingle.
  • Use a very airy, fast-draining substrate that retains some moisture without staying wet.
  • Maintain high humidity, ideally 70–90%, together with good air circulation.
  • Keep temperatures warm to intermediate, preferably around 20–30°C (68–86°F).
  • Water regularly during active growth, allowing the upper portion of the medium to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Avoid prolonged complete dryness, particularly while the plant is actively producing new leaves.
  • Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
  • Do not remove mature flower peduncles, as future flower clusters can develop from established spurs.
