Hoya ‘Mathilde Inner Variegated’ is a rare variegated form of the hybrid Hoya ‘Mathilde’ (Hoya carnosa × Hoya serpens). Unlike the standard green type, this cultivar displays striking inner variegation, with creamy yellow to pale centers contrasted by green leaf margins. The plant has small, rounded, slightly succulent leaves and a compact, trailing growth habit, making it suitable for baskets or pots. When mature, it can produce clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers, while the variegation adds extra ornamental value.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh midday sun which can scorch the lighter parts of leaves. For good variegation, a bit more light helps.

  • Temperature: Keep in mild to warm indoor temps, ideally between about 18-29 °C (65-85 °F). Avoid cold drafts.

  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; 55-70% is good. Variegated leaves may dry or brown at edges if humidity is low.

  • Watering: Let the top soil dry somewhat between waterings. Overwatering can lead to rot especially when leaves are light and thinner.

  • Soil / Substrate: Use a well-draining loose mix (e.g. potting mix with perlite, orchid bark or similar) so water drains quickly. Avoid compact heavy soil.

  • Maintenance: Be gentle with variegated leaves (they are more prone to stress/damage). Retain flower spurs if present, as Mathilde usually reblooms from the same spots.
