Hoya nummularia syn Hoya obcordata is a small and unusual Hoya originally described from the Sikkim Himalaya, distinguished by its charming obcordate to kidney-shaped leaves with a deep notch at the tip. The stems are slender and can creep or root along a surface, giving the plant a compact, spreading growth habit rather than the vigorous climbing form seen in many Hoyas. Its delicate white flowers are produced in loose umbels, with the corolla featuring softly hairy margins. This species is especially interesting to collectors because of its distinctive leaf shape and compact habit.

Care Tips:

  • Provide bright, filtered light or gentle morning sun; avoid harsh afternoon sunlight.
  • Use a very airy, well-draining substrate such as fine orchid bark, perlite, and coco-based materials.
  • Water moderately, allowing the upper portion of the medium to dry slightly before watering again.
  • Maintain 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
  • Keep temperatures around 16–28°C (60–82°F) and protect from prolonged cold.
  • Because of its naturally creeping habit, provide a flat support or allow it to trail rather than forcing it onto a tall trellis.
  • Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
  • Avoid oversized pots; Hoyas generally flower better when kept slightly root-bound.
  • Do not remove old flower peduncles, as established spurs can produce flowers again.
