Hoya polyneura ‘Inner Variegated’ is a rare form of the fishtail hoya, distinguished by its long, narrow leaves featuring light green to creamy-white or yellow variegation along the inner portions, contrasted by green edges. The variegation appears primarily in the center of each leaf, giving the plant a unique, delicate look. This trailing or twining vine grows beautifully in hanging baskets or cascading from shelves, adding an elegant touch to any indoor plant collection.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Variegation develops best under good light; too much direct afternoon sun may scorch the leaves.
-
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top inch (or so) to dry before watering again. Overwatering risks root issues.
-
Humidity & Temperature: Prefers moderate to high humidity (around 60-80%) and warm temperatures around 60-85 °F (≈15-29 °C). Avoid cold drafts.
-
Soil & Potting: Use well-draining, chunky mix (e.g. orchid bark + perlite + coco coir or tree fern fiber). Pots with good drainage are important.
-
Fertilizer: Apply a diluted balanced fertilizer every few weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in cooler months.
-
Handling variegation: Because the inner variegated form has more non-green tissue, it may need more attentive light and care to maintain its variegation. Keep an eye on new growth.
