Hoya rotundiflora is a rare and distinctive Hoya native to Myanmar, where it grows in wet tropical habitats. It is a pendulous to weakly climbing epiphytic vine with fleshy, leathery leaves that have a characteristic slightly rolled margin and a darker green border. The plant produces compact, convex umbels of up to around 20 flowers. Its unusual flowers have a strongly reflexed, rounded corolla, giving the species a distinctive appearance compared with related Hoyas such as Hoya lyi and Hoya thomsonii. The combination of textured foliage, unusual rounded flowers, and relatively rare availability makes H. rotundiflora an appealing choice for Hoya collectors.
Care Tips:
- Provide bright, filtered light; gentle morning or late-afternoon sun is beneficial.
- Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining substrate such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco-based material.
- Water thoroughly, then allow the substrate to become nearly dry before watering again.
- Maintain moderate to high humidity with good air circulation.
- Keep temperatures warm to intermediate, protecting the plant from prolonged cold.
- Provide a trellis or hanging support for its pendulous to weakly climbing growth.
- Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
- Do not remove old flower peduncles, as Hoyas can rebloom from established spurs.
