Leptochilus ellipticus is a tropical to subtropical fern in the genus Leptochilus, widely distributed from the Himalayas through East and Southeast Asia to the Philippines. It grows as a rhizomatous epiphyte or lithophyte, typically inhabiting shaded forests, rocky slopes, and humid environments. The fronds are leathery and variable, ranging from simple to lobed forms, with distinctive linear sori arranged along the veins on the underside of the leaves.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light to medium shade; avoid strong direct sun
- Water: Keep evenly moist but not soggy; allow slight drying between watering
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60%+), typical of forest understory
- Substrate: Well-draining mix (bark, sphagnum, or mounted on wood/rock)
- Airflow: Good ventilation helps prevent rhizome rot
- Temperature: Warm to mild (avoid frost; best above ~10°C)
- Fertilizer: Light feeding during active growth (diluted, occasional)
