Microsorum siamense is a stunning lithophytic/epiphytic species native to southern Thailand. Its glossy, metallic-blue fronds unveil a special iridescence under ideal conditions.
Features and Habitat:
- Habitat: Grows naturally on limestone cliffs or trees in karst regions of southern Thailand at elevations from about 250–700 m.
- Leaves: Glossy, pointed fronds exhibit a striking metallic blue sheen, particularly under low-to-medium indirect light.
- Growth Habit: Slow-growing, tight clumping plant that spreads via wiry rhizomes.
Care Tips:
- Light: Thrives in medium to low indirect light. Bright shade enhances blue tones; too much light can turn fronds green.
- Watering: Keep substrate moist; water weekly while avoiding both waterlogging and extended dryness.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60–80%). Ideal for terrariums, paludariums, or humid indoor spaces.
- Temperature: Warm to intermediate climate: between 20–30 °C daytime and above 15 °C at night.
- Substrate: Use well-draining mix with humus; adding limestone chippings echoes its natural cliff habitat and enriches iridescence.
- Airflow: Ensure gentle air movement to prevent fungal issues.
