Oreogrammitis adspersa (synonym Grammitis adspersa Blume) is a small, elegant epiphytic species native to the wet tropical forests of western and central Malesia, including Borneo, Java, Malaya, the Philippines, Sumatra, and surrounding regions.
Features:
-
Rhizome & fronds: Arising from short, upright or creeping rhizomes covered in lance-shaped brown scales. The plant forms tufts of simple, entire fronds—lanceolate to oblanceolate, measuring approximately 3–10 cm long and 3–6 mm wide—with smooth, paper-like texture on both surfaces.
-
Sori: Sporangia grouped in small, elongated (elliptic) sori situated obliquely to the midrib on the underside of fronds; not sunken into the leaf tissue.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers bright, diffused light; avoid direct sun to protect delicate fronds.
-
Soil & Substrate: Use a well‑draining, organic-rich mix (similar to epiphytic ferns), or mount on bark/moss where moisture can cling.
-
Moisture: Keep medium consistently moist but not waterlogged; mist frequently to maintain high humidity levels.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm, humid conditions typical of tropical understories (around 20–30 °C).
-
Propagation: Best achieved by division of rhizome clumps; spore propagation possible but slow.
