Oreogrammitis hainanensis is a rare, ultra-miniature fern species belonging to the Grammitidaceae family. It is native to the high-elevation forests of Hainan Island, where it thrives in cool, humid environments that do not accumulate water. This species is often found in association with orchid-type plants, making it an extremely rare epiphytic fern.
Features:
-
Fronds: The fronds are small and delicate, with an elongated, pinnate shape and finely serrated edges.
-
Size: Mature plants are only about 5 cm in height, making it a truly miniature fern.
-
Growth Habit: Epiphytic, growing in humid, shaded environments on tree trunks or rocks.
Care Tips:
-
Humidity: Keep humidity levels above 70% to replicate its natural habitat.
-
Light: Provide indirect light to avoid leaf burn from direct sunlight.
-
Temperature: Ideal temperature range is between 20°C and 30°C (68°F–86°F).
-
Watering: Ensure consistent moisture, but avoid waterlogging. Use distilled or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup.
-
Substrate: Ideal for terrariums, where humidity and moisture can be easily controlled. Use sphagnum moss, hygrolon, or similar substrates to simulate its natural environment.
