Paphiopedilum Booth’s Stone-Lady is a registered primary hybrid created by crossing Paphiopedilum Lady Isabel (also known as Lady Isobel) with Paphiopedilum stonei. First registered by F. Booth in 1989, it is a classic multifloral slipper orchid that combines the elegant striping and refined floral structure of stonei with the strong genetic influence of Lady Isabel, which itself carries rothschildianum heritage. The result is a tall, graceful plant producing multiple flowers per spike, with long, narrow, slightly twisted petals often marked in green, brown, and reddish tones, and a broad dorsal sepal with strong contrasting striping. The overall appearance is more delicate than rothschildianum-heavy hybrids but still very architectural and striking in bloom.

Features:

  • Primary hybrid: Paphiopedilum Lady Isabel × Paphiopedilum stonei
  • Genetic influence: mostly stonei-dominant (~75%) with rothschildianum ancestry via Lady Isabel
  • Multifloral habit (typically 2–5 flowers per spike, depending on maturity)
  • Long, slender petals with green, brown, and reddish striping
  • Broad dorsal sepal with bold venation and contrast
  • Elegant, slightly arching inflorescence rather than rigid upright form
  • Medium–large plant with strap-shaped green leaves
  • Slow-growing, requiring maturity for full multifloral displays

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, filtered light (similar to other multifloral Paphiopedilums)
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm, with mild night cooling preferred
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist; never allow complete drying
  • Humidity: 60–80% with stable conditions
  • Potting: Open, well-aerated mix (bark + perlite; limestone additions beneficial)
  • Airflow: Strong airflow to prevent crown and root issues
  • Feeding: Regular weak fertilizer during active growth
  • Patience: Slow to establish, but improves flowering quality with maturity
