This is an interesting cross between the sequential-flowering P. glaucophyllum and the distinctive striped-flowered P. tigrinum. P. glaucophyllum itself can produce long inflorescences with many flowers opening successively, while P. tigrinum contributes its characteristic striped floral pattern and strong floral substance.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, filtered light or light shade. Avoid strong direct midday sunlight.
- Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but not waterlogged. Do not allow the roots to remain completely dry for long periods.
- Growing Medium: Use an airy, well-draining Paphiopedilum mix based on fine or medium bark, perlite and a moisture-retentive component such as sphagnum.
- Humidity: Maintain around 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
- Temperature: Intermediate conditions are suitable, approximately 18–28°C (65–82°F) during the day, with somewhat cooler nights.
- Fertilizing: Apply a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Flush the medium periodically to prevent fertilizer-salt buildup.
- Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous airflow, especially in warm and humid conditions.
- Potting: Use a relatively small pot with excellent drainage. Avoid oversized containers that remain wet for too long.
- Repotting: Repot when the medium begins to break down or when new roots are developing. Handle the roots carefully.
- Flowering: Stable moisture, adequate filtered light and good nutrition encourage strong flowering. Because P. glaucophyllum is a sequential bloomer, this hybrid may retain an extended flowering tendency.
