Paphiopedilum henryanum × Paphiopedilum villosum is a hybrid combining the compact growth and bold spotting of P. henryanum with the larger flowers and distinctive coloration of P. villosum. The plants typically form attractive mottled green foliage and produce relatively large, single flowers with a broad dorsal sepal, spotted or maroon markings, reddish-brown petals and a contrasting slipper-shaped pouch. This combination is particularly appealing to collectors who enjoy Paphiopedilum hybrids with characteristics intermediate between both parent species.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide moderate, filtered light or bright shade. Avoid strong direct midday sunlight.
- Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but well drained. Avoid prolonged drying and constantly saturated conditions.
- Growing Medium: Use a loose, moisture-retentive Paphiopedilum mix with fine bark, sphagnum and perlite.
- Humidity: Maintain around 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
- Temperature: Intermediate conditions are suitable. Aim for approximately 18–28°C (65–82°F) during the day with cooler nights when possible.
- Fertilizing: Apply a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth and flush the medium periodically.
- Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous airflow, particularly in warm and humid conditions.
- Potting: Use a relatively small pot with good drainage and avoid oversized containers.
- Repotting: Repot when the growing medium begins to break down, preferably when new roots are developing.
- Flowering: Consistent moisture, moderate light and cooler nighttime temperatures can encourage healthy growth and flowering. Paphiopedilums generally benefit from steady watering throughout the year.
