Paphiopedilum Krista is a primary hybrid between Paphiopedilum exul × Paphiopedilum primulinum.
The cross combines the compact, warm-growing characteristics of P. exul with the sequential-flowering habit and yellow-green flowers of P. primulinum. This makes Krista an attractive choice for collectors interested in compact, long-flowering Paphiopedilum hybrids.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, filtered light or light shade. Avoid strong direct midday sunlight.
- Watering: Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not waterlogged. Avoid prolonged dryness.
- Growing Medium: Use an airy, well-draining Paphiopedilum mix with fine or medium bark, perlite and a moisture-retentive component such as sphagnum.
- Humidity: Maintain approximately 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
- Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are suitable. Aim for approximately 20–29°C (68–85°F) during the day, with slightly cooler nights.
- Fertilizing: Apply a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Flush the medium periodically to prevent fertilizer-salt accumulation.
- Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous airflow, especially in warm and humid conditions.
- Potting: Use a relatively small pot with good drainage. Avoid oversized containers that remain wet for too long.
- Repotting: Repot when the medium begins to break down or when new roots are developing.
- Flowering: Because P. primulinum is a sequential bloomer, Krista can retain an extended flowering period. Stable moisture, adequate light and regular nutrition help support continued flowering.
