Paphiopedilum Little Trouble is a primary hybrid between Paphiopedilum barbigerum × Paphiopedilum charlesworthii.
This is a particularly interesting miniature Paphiopedilum hybrid. It combines the compact growth and floriferous nature of P. barbigerum with the broad, attractive dorsal sepal and floral form of P. charlesworthii.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, filtered light to moderate shade. Avoid strong direct midday sunlight.
- Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist, allowing it to approach dryness but never letting the plant remain dry for an extended period.
- Growing Medium: Use a well-draining Paphiopedilum mix, such as fine or medium bark with perlite and a moisture-retentive component. Good root aeration is important.
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial, ideally around 50–80%, with good airflow.
- Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are suitable. Approximately 18–29°C (65–85°F) during the day works well, with slightly cooler nights.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Flush the medium periodically to prevent fertilizer salt buildup.
- Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous air movement, especially under warm and humid conditions.
- Repotting: Repot when the medium starts to decompose or when new roots are developing. Avoid damaging the fine roots.
- Pot Size: Because this is a compact hybrid, avoid using an unnecessarily large pot. A relatively small pot is preferable.
- Flowering: Mature multi-growth plants can produce several flowers, sometimes 4–5 flowers from a small pot. Stable moisture, moderate light and good nutrition help encourage free flowering.
