Paphiopedilum Woluwense is a registered primary hybrid between Paphiopedilum niveum × Paphiopedilum rothschildianum.

This is an interesting hybrid because it combines the compact, rounded white flowers of P. niveum with the long, elegant petals and multifloral character of P. rothschildianum. Plants can produce attractive white flowers with purple to maroon spotting and elongated petals, making mature specimens particularly impressive.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered light. Avoid strong midday direct sunlight, especially during hot weather.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings, but do not let the roots remain dry for extended periods.
  • Growing Medium: Use a well-draining Paphiopedilum mix containing fine or medium bark, perlite and moisture-retentive organic material.
  • Humidity: Maintain moderate to high humidity with good airflow. Avoid stagnant conditions around the plant.
  • Temperature: Intermediate conditions around 18–27°C (65–81°F) are suitable. The P. rothschildianum parent appreciates warmth, while P. niveum can tolerate somewhat cooler conditions. Avoid prolonged extreme heat.
  • Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Flush the medium periodically with clean water to prevent fertilizer-salt buildup.
  • Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous air movement, particularly when humidity is high.
  • Potting: Use a pot with good drainage and repot when the growing medium begins to break down. Avoid using an unnecessarily large pot.
  • Flowering: Maintain stable light, watering and temperature while buds develop. Mature plants may produce impressive multifloral displays.
