Paraphalaenopsis laycockii × Vanda Kouishiro Ikai is an intergeneric orchid hybrid combining the pendulous, terete‑leafed Paraphalaenopsis laycockii with the vigorous, high‑light loving Vanda‑alliance parent Vanda Kouishiro Ikai. The result is an attractive plant that often shows a blend of both parents’ traits: elegant long or arching foliage from the Paraphalaenopsis side and vibrant, showy flowers influenced by the Vanda lineage. This hybrid typically grows well in hanging baskets or mounted culture, producing fragrant, colorful blooms under bright light and intermediate to warm conditions. It makes a striking addition to collections of Vanda‑type and pendant orchids, combining robust growth with ornamental flowering characteristics.

Care Tips:

  • Light

    • Bright, indirect light

    • Vandas like high light intensity; avoid scorching direct midday sun

    • East or filtered south light works well

  • Temperature

    • Intermediate to warm conditions (ideally around 18–30 °C / 65–86 °F)

    • Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below ~15 °C

  • Watering

    • Keep roots consistently moist but not waterlogged

    • Water frequently in warm weather (daily or every other day if mounted/bare‑root)

    • Allow roots to dry slightly between waterings in cooler conditions

  • Humidity

    • High humidity (60–80% is ideal)

    • Use humidity trays or humidifier if indoors

  • Air Circulation

    • Good airflow is very important to prevent rot and disease

    • Especially critical with high humidity and dense foliage

  • Growing Medium / Mounting

    • Excellent candidates for hanging baskets or mounted culture

    • If potted, use a very open, fast‑draining mix (coarse bark, charcoal)

    • Allow roots to hang freely for best airflow

  • Fertilizing

    • Use a balanced, dilute orchid fertilizer during active growth

    • Feed lightly but regularly (e.g., weekly at quarter strength)

  • Flowering

    • This cross tends to bloom under brighter light and warm conditions

    • Vanda influence means it may take a bit longer to reach blooming size compared to pure Paraphalaenopsis
