Renanthera Kalsom is a primary orchid hybrid in the genus Renanthera, created by crossing Renanthera philippinensis × Renanthera storiei. Tetraploid forms of this hybrid are especially valued in orchid cultivation, as they often exhibit more vigorous growth and produce larger, thicker, and more robust flowers compared with standard diploid forms.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Requires bright, high light similar to Vanda-type orchids; provide filtered sunlight and avoid intense midday sun.
-
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions, ideally 22–32 °C during the day with mild nighttime cooling.
-
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity levels of 70–90%.
-
Watering: Water generously and frequently during active growth; allow roots to dry slightly between waterings to prevent rot.
-
Air circulation: Strong, constant airflow is essential to keep roots healthy and reduce disease risk.
-
Growing method: Best grown mounted or in baskets with coarse, fast-draining media to ensure excellent root aeration.
-
Fertilization: Feed regularly with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer; tetraploid plants may respond well to consistent, light feeding.
-
Maintenance: Remove spent flower spikes and inspect roots and leaves regularly to maintain overall plant health.
