Selaginella erythropus, commonly known as the Ruby Red Club Moss, is a striking species of spike moss native to tropical regions of Central and South America. This plant is renowned for its vibrant green upper fronds and deep ruby-red undersides, making it a popular choice for terrariums and shaded indoor gardens. It thrives in humid environments and is well-suited for cultivation in containers or terrariums.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers low to moderate, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate foliage and cause the red coloration to fade.
- Soil: Thrives in well-draining, moisture-retentive soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5–7.0). A mix of sphagnum moss, coconut coir, and perlite is ideal.
- Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mist regularly to maintain high humidity levels (60–90%). Use distilled or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup.
- Temperature: Best suited for temperatures between 5°C and 35°C (41°F to 95°F). Avoid exposure to cold drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations.
- Humidity: Requires high humidity, making it perfect for terrariums or humid indoor environments. Mist frequently or use a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels.
