Seidenfadenia mitrata alba is a rare albino form of this distinctive monopodial orchid, treasured for its refined and elegant appearance. Unlike the typical form, which displays pink to purple markings and a vivid colored lip, the alba form produces pristine white, sweetly fragrant flowers with little to no anthocyanin pigmentation, giving the blooms a remarkably pure and luminous look. The flowers are borne in abundance along short inflorescences nestled among the dense, pendant, terete leaves, creating a graceful cascade of white blossoms in spring. Aside from its lack of pigmentation, it shares the same compact, pendant growth habit and warm-growing culture as the standard species, making it one of the most sought-after forms for collectors of unusual vandaceous orchids.

Care Tips:

  • Provide low to medium-bright filtered light, avoiding prolonged direct midday sun while ensuring enough light for reliable blooming.
  • Grow mounted, in a slatted basket, or in a very open, fast-draining medium with excellent air circulation around the roots.
  • Water regularly during active growth, but allow the roots or potting medium to dry before watering again, as the fine roots dislike remaining constantly wet.
  • Reduce watering during the cooler resting season while preventing the plant from becoming completely desiccated.
  • Maintain warm to hot temperatures with moderate to high humidity (around 60–80%) and steady air movement.
  • Feed lightly with a balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth, reducing or stopping fertilization during the winter rest period.
  • Repot or remount only when necessary and preferably when new roots begin to emerge, as established root systems are sensitive to disturbance.
