Racopilum cuspidigerum, also known as Selaginella Moss, is named for its leaf arrangement, which resembles that of the Selaginella plants (commonly known as clubmosses). This is a creeping moss that grows on decayed wood, rocks, and soil. It is excellent at attaching to wood, spreading quickly, and thrives in humid conditions, making it well-suited for micro-landscapes, terrariums, and paludariums. It can be placed in water to adjust water flow direction, but be cautious of growing too tall when kept in a closed-off environment.
The moss has fine, elongated hairs at the tips of its leaves, adding texture and visual interest.
Care Tips:
-
Lighting: In water cultivation, strong light (above 6000 lux) is required, while in closed environments, weak light (below 6000 lux) is preferred.
-
Humidity: Should be kept at 70% or higher for best growth.
-
Soil Conditions: Prefers slightly acidic soils.
-
Temperature: Best maintained at below 25°C.
-
Care Level: This moss is easy to care for, making it ideal for beginners, particularly in high-humidity, enclosed environments such as rainforest tanks or terrariums.
Additional Considerations:
- Growth Characteristics: Racopilum cuspidigerum spreads rapidly and is great for creating lush, natural landscapes. In environments with too much closure, it may grow vertically, so ensure there's enough airflow to encourage horizontal spreading.
Purchase Size: 15×8 cm (5.91×3.15‘’).
