Care Tips for Sonerila dongii:
-
Temperature: Ideal temperatures range between 18–25°C (65–77°F). Avoid temperatures dropping below 15°C (59°F) at night.
-
Humidity: This plant thrives in high humidity, ideally 60–80% or higher. Keeping it in a terrarium helps maintain the required moisture levels.
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining mix of peat, perlite, and moss. Ensure the soil retains moisture but doesn’t stay soggy.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use filtered or rainwater to avoid mineral buildup.
-
Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), apply a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks.
-
Propagation: Sonerila dongii can be propagated by stem cuttings or division. Ensure each cutting has roots and leaves for successful growth.
-
General Care: Avoid letting the leaves stay wet for extended periods to prevent rot. Make sure it’s kept in a warm and humid environment to mimic its natural habitat.
This plant is an excellent choice for terrariums, adding a splash of color with its unique spots and flowers. Perfect for collectors and plant enthusiasts looking to add a rare species to their collection.
