Tainia macrantha (Hook.f.) is a terrestrial orchid native to China (Southwest Sichuan, Guangxi, southern Guangdong) and Vietnam, typically growing on wooded slopes at elevations of about 700 to 1,200 meters.

Features:

  • Terrestrial habit, growing from a prostrate rhizome

  • Narrow, cylindrical pseudobulbs, each with one elliptic, pleated leaf

  • Erect terminal inflorescence with 3–6 flowers

Care Tips:

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered light; avoid direct sunlight that may scorch foliage

  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool conditions suited to its native elevation range

  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity; ensure ambient moisture to mimic forest understory

  • Watering: Keep substrate evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging

  • Substrate / Soil: Use a well-draining mix (e.g. bark, moss, perlite) that retains some moisture but allows aeration

  • Fertilizer: Use a diluted balanced fertilizer during active growth periods

  • Airflow: Gentle air circulation is helpful to reduce fungal issues
