Paragymnopteris sargentii, commonly known as the Triangular Gold Hair Fern, is a small fern species belonging to the Paragymnopteris genus. It is native to regions in China, particularly Yunnan. This fern thrives in warm, humid, and shaded environments, making it an excellent choice for cultivation in terrariums or enclosed plant ecosystems.
Features:
-
Height: Typically grows up to 40 cm, making it ideal for small terrariums.
-
Leaves: Triangular in shape, deep green, with finely serrated edges and soft, hair-like structures on the leaf stalks.
-
Spore Clusters: Located on the underside of the leaves, arranged in a neat pattern.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate fronds. It is well-suited for placement near windows or under LED grow lights.
-
Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally above 60%. Mist regularly or use a humidifier to maintain the right moisture levels.
-
Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 18°C and 24°C (64°F–75°F). Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.
-
Soil: Use well-draining, humus-rich soil or a peat-based mix. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
-
Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid standing water. A gentle misting on the leaves can help maintain humidity.
-
Ventilation: Open the terrarium occasionally to allow airflow and prevent excessive moisture buildup that could lead to mold.
